They Cloned Tyrone

It took me almost half a year after downloading this movie to watch it due to the heavy subjects of poverty, crime and what may seem as a disregard for life in the ghetto while trying to survive and disassociating from reality. All of which is a heartbreaking combination which I avoid when selecting entertainment for my weekend watch list.
But even after having noticed all of that in the trailer, I couldn't bring myself to delete it especially after the amazing reviews I saw from the black community that made it a promising watch for me.

I finally watched it and let me you something, never in a million years did I ever think that I would enjoy a sci-fi thrilller with some conspiracy and comedic aspect to it. The mix of these genres was a welcome reprive cause this wasn't easy to watch considering the bigger picture/current socio-economic landscape and the continuation of exploitation of POC.

I am not sure if enjoy is the right word, but respect to the cast for the beautiful execution and for doing the story justice. And even though the ending felt more like cliffhanger than the happy ending I had hoped for - this was still a great film.

Congratulations to the director, Juel Taylor for delivering such an incredible debut. I hope to see more work from him.

Thanks for stopping by,
Kei
