I had almost forgotten that I have had this article open the minute I received The School of Life newsletter because if there is one thing to learn, it is that of being alone and happily so.
In many ways we look for ourselves and the confirmation that we are on the right path in some the things we consume. There were many instances where I nodded in agreement with valid points made in favour of humans learning to enjoy themselves outside of romantic relations. As someone who has spent years enjoying solitude and living vicariously through fictional characters, friends and acquaintances wrt relationships - I am grateful that this period has been that of peace, learning and appreciating life fully. So much so, that I have frustratingly tried to talk my close friends out of postponing life experiences for when they are married (since none of that is guaranteed). In hopes that they wouldn't one day wake up and regret not choosing to live because of being hung up on the idea of completion through another person. I obviously have my own biases.
The article also touches on the many ways marketing sells experiences through romance and being a couple and I selfishly felt triumphant at the mention of hotel packages cause....chile. You'll be looking for days and 95%+ of the offerings are meant for couples and solo travel becomes unnecessarily expensive!
Anywho, check out the full article here as beautifully written by The School of Life.
