Tis the season

I have never been one to get caught up in the festive spirit but just for a few hours this evening I am allowing myself to get caught up in the flow of things. It's quite late considering the fact that retailers put up Christmas decorations in September.

Growing up mostly in informal settlements and rural areas had me exposed to people continuing with everyday activities, trying to survive. I remember one Christmas arriving in my small town on a bus and seeing people with calamine on their faces weeding their gardens and washing clothes by the river. Some of it felt wrong seeing that I spent most of my childhood inside a church on Christmas day being reminded of the importance of faith and to celebrate baby Jesus.

All of that is rather worlds apart from the excess and shopping I get to witness as an adult based in big cities. The cinnamon smell, the Christmas music, imagining the food lol cause I resigned from being the designated family cook...and the spirit of love *inserts stupid grinning emoji* All that's missing is me in a wooden cabin buried in snow somewhere in the Canadian mountains.

Anywho, Michael Buble has been playing in my head for quite some time now and what better way to celebrate than to play one of my favourite albums of his - the soundtrack to my second year of university: Crazy Love.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas and I truly hope you will start the new year well rested and with renewed resolve and strength to face what lies ahead.
